Husch Blackwell attorney Stan Baker, DVM will be presenting a lecture at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine on Friday, October 31 at 10 a.m. in the Frick Auditorium.
The lecture is titled, “Drug Compounding: Know the Risks.” Drug compounding in a sensitive subject in the veterinary profession. Unfortunately, it is also a subject plagued with misinformation.
As a vet, Stan knows firsthand how critical compounding is to the practice of medicine; and as a lawyer, he understands the risk of professional liability that can result from the use of a compounded drug. The lecture, previously presented at ACVIM, will not condone or condemn the practice of using compounded drugs. Rather, Dr. Baker will explain the risks in real-life scenarios and encourage veterinarians to make their own risk-based cost-benefit decisions. The presentation will also cover other issues such as professionalism, the sourcing of compounded drugs, and the application of non-economic damages to pet injury situations.
